Chapter 17 -

Woody had many questions that he wanted to ask Jessie and she too had many she wanted to ask him. As they walked down some of the streets they were silent. It wasn’t an awkward silence, it was allowing Jessie to relax and get used to her surroundings. The only noise was the hooves of Angel and Bullseye as they walked. Sleepily, some of the shop owners opened their windows not paying any attention to the Sheriff and his companion.
I’m finally here!’ Jessie thought trying not to smile. ‘I am walking through the West and it’s amazing and I have only seen this little town. And I am with Sheriff Woody! I at last know his name.

Angel looked at Jessie from the corner of her eye and could see she was trying not to smile. Her ears twitched a little as she continued walking forwards.
So this baffled red head is called Jessie.’ Woody thought as his eyes stayed fixed on the path in front of him. ‘She seems nice enough. Would it be stupid asking her why she is here? It’s obviously her Father but why here?’ Woody had a mental debate with himself as they walked onwards.

Jessie kept looking at him from the corner of her eye but quickly looked forward again each time he moved his head in the slightest manner. Woody occasionally took a few glances at her but looked away if he thought she had seen.
Bullseye noticed Woody had been staring at her a few times. His eyes glanced to his owner as he slowly edged his way closer to him which made Woody move closer to Jessie without realising.
“So Jessie,” Woody began which caused her to eagerly look up at him. “I know it’s a really stupid question to ask...but...what are you doing all the way out here?
Jessie was silent for a few seconds and she started to twisel her hair a little. “Because of my Father and I hated the life I had to lead.”
“I can very well understand why you hate your Father after what I witnessed, but what do you mean about hating the life you were forced to lead?” He didn’t want to ask but he was so curious.
Jessie frowned and looked to the side which caused Woody to feel a little guilty. Angel nudged her side gently, urging her to tell Woody. “Long story short,” she said looking forward “my father is forcing me to get married to some stuck up jerk. And I just hate my family so I decided to run away to the West because I’ve always wanted to come here.”
“He is forcing you to get married?”
“Yeah...but I don’t want to talk about it.” She sighed.
“That’s fine, I won’t push you. But if you want to talk I’ll listen. My job isn’t just about arresting people.” Woody looked at her.
She half smiled at him and then continued walking onwards.

As they continued down some of the streets, they were greeted by a dirt track, surrounded by an open area of fields and hills. Green grass reached high up while the canyons were broadly visible in the distance with some buffalo running free. Jessie stood and admired the view, a smile creeping over her face.
Woody was still walking with Bullseye but stopped and turned to face Jessie when he noticed she wasn’t beside him anymore. He could tell by her expression that she was truly mesmerised by it all.

“Beautiful isn’t it?” He said looking out into the distance.
“It’s beyond my wildest dreams” Jessie said looking at him. Never before had she seen anything so beautiful. Her grandmother told her it was a wonderful place but she never imagined it to look like this.
“Was the other day ya first time in the West?” He questioned.
“Yeah, but I hardly got to see anything because of my Father. Only the little village bit.” She sighed.
He looked at her from the corner of his eye.
“But from my bedroom window, I can...could see some of it.” She looked about. “I’ve always wanted to come here but my Father never allowed it. My grandmother was from the West but had to marry into a rich family so she moved to where I live. She told me really good stories each night for as long as I can remember.”
Woody wasn’t looking at her but he was paying close attention.
“We only came here to get to my sister’s fiancées place. Then back again to get back to mine. I’m staying here for good now. I don’t know why but I just...I just feel like my heart belongs here.
“Hmm.” Woody nodded and faced forward again. “Shall we continue?” He started to walk and she followed him.

“Why ain’t your Father let you come here before?”
Jessie rolled her eyes thinking about what her Father said about the West. “Because he believes it to be a horrid place with a load of drunks and bandits. He also thinks you all talk like idiots.”
“Your Father doesn’t know what he is talking about.”
“I guarantee he hates you. He wouldn’t shut up about how you made him look like a fool.”
“He didn’t need me to make him look like a fool.” He grumbled.
“Oh believe me, I know.”
As they walked down a hill, Woody looked over at Angel. “She is a pretty little thing. Well...tall thing. She is a good size and shape. What’s her name again?”
“Isn’t she just. I raised her well.” Jessie said smugly. “She is called Angel”
Angel neighed at the compliment and flicked her mane a little.
“Bullseye is also a handsome horse.”
He looked at her, “How do you...is it from when you watched us in the field? You heard his name.”
She nodded embarrassed.
“He is alright isn’t he?” Woody nudged him slightly.
Bullseye grunted and started to walk a little quicker down the hill.

Once they reached the bottom, they continued walking for a bit until they reached a small stream that cut off their path. There was a brown curbed bridge that went across.
“This way.” Woody said walking across the bridge, Bullseye by his side while Jessie and Angel followed.
A small cottage sat alone in the field. It wasn’t very big but it looked homely. The outside was made from a dark orange brick with a brown roof. Attached to the right side was a wooden stable and further to the left there was a well. As Jessie looked around, she noticed there weren’t any other buildings. ‘How can such a small little cottage be in such a big area’ Jessie thought. She stopped on the bridge and looked into the water. Her reflection looked back at her through the ripples. “I look awful.” She mumbled noticing her awful state.
Woody turned to look at her. “You can tidy yourself up.”
She looked over at him, “I haven’t made a good proper first impression.”
“Oh well.” He shrugged, “I’ve seen a lot worse on a first occasion.” He pulled out a set of keys from his trouser pocket and headed towards the building.
Jessie followed him and waited beside him as she reached a wooden door.
He placed a long golden key into the door and it clicked open. “Welcome to my home Jessie.”

A/N - Ohhh they are now at Woody's house. Who thinks Angel and Bullseye are gunna have a thing going on??
